Shadow Fight 2 is a fighting game in the classic arcade style for the Windows platform.

Shadow Fight 2 is a free-to-play arcade-style fighting game with microtransactions. It’s very much in the style of a game like Street Fighter. Each match pits you against one other fighter, and matches require you to win two rounds. Win or lose, you’ll earn coins. Winning on the harder difficulties as well as pulling off combos is the best way to earn coins. You can also purchase coins with real money.

Shadow Fight 2 employs an RPG-like system. Your character isn’t the best he or she can be at the outset. Instead you’ll purchase weapons, armor, and other items that will make them stronger. These purchases are made with the coins described above. If you choose not to pay the game can be a bit grindy. That’s not a huge deal since this is a single-player experience and the game lacks a traditional end per se.

The combat itself is fun and fast-paced. Rounds end quickly, and you can’t just mash the buttons on the way to victory. Your opponents are shadows rather than being fixed characters. You won’t enter a fight knowing exactly what to expect. Some fans will find that uncertainty enjoyable. Other fight fans will prefer the more traditional approach.

The controls in Shadow Fight 2 aren’t nearly as refined as most other modern fighting games. Hardcore fighting game fans demand precision, and you won’t find that here. This can prove frustrating and is likely a barrier that will keep you from playing extensively and long-term. Nevertheless, if you’re a fight fan who needs a diversion during your commute home Shadow Fight 2 is a solid option.

The biggest issue with Shadow Fight 2 is your character’s energy meter. Each time you fight, win or lose, that meter will deplete somewhat. When it’s empty you can’t fight. It will refresh with time, or you can pay to refill it. That’s another reason why this game is best enjoyed in small bursts.
